At its meeting of June
15,
1968
the Faculty of Arts debated
at length the course proposals from the PSA department. It was pointed
out that the problem of having to offer "mass" courses at the upper
level would not have arisen had the department been allowed to hire
additional faculty to teach upper level courses during the next year.
From a focus upon the immediate problem of PSA, the discussion shifted
to the role of budget n the program, or programs, of any department.
Fear was expressed that lack of funds would continue to compromise the
quality of the academia program, as well as to Lthiit the number of
students taking courses. Therefore the Faculty of Arts presents the
following resolution to Senate:
"Be it resolved that Senate be requested to consider the
effects upon the quality of education through the allocation of
budgets by other than a weighting system."
I would ask that the resolution be placed before Senate at
the next meeting.
