MOTION - That Senate approve under Section I - Interpretation, of
the Universities Act pertaining to 'faculty member' that
for the purposes of nominations, elections and voting the
following positions be designated by Senate as equivalent
- positions -

Dean of Faculty

RATIONALE - Part I, Section I - Interpretation, of the Universities
Act includes the following:
"faculty member' means a person employed on a full-time
basis by a university who has, for four months or longer,
served as an instructor, lecturer, assistant professor,
associate professor, professor, or in an equivalent
position designated by the senate."
In general, persons h6lding the positions described above
also will hold one of the faculty member appointments
directly described in the statute, but this is not a
necessary condition. The motion above will place these
individuals for electoral purposes in the "faculty members"
category rather than in the "employees of the university
who are not faculty members" category.
