The Faculty of Arts Curriculum Committee at its meeting of November 22,
1982 approved the attached changes to the Group Requirements Section of the
Faculty of Arts Regulations. The majority of these changes are of an
editorial nature, in an attempt to make the requirements less confusing to
students. There is one substantive change which is to remove Business
Administration courses from Group B. The Faculty of Business Administration
has excluded these courses from their Group Requirements, and, because of
changes in their curriculum, there are almost no lower-division courses of
general interest nature which students might use for satisfying Group Require-
ments.

GROUP REQUIREMENTS
Normally, the first 60 hours of a student's program comprise a period of
exploratory and prerequisite study, contrasted to the final 60 hours which
constitute the essence of the degree program. The Faculty of Arts Group
Requirements outlined on
p.
35 are intended to provide a base for a liberal
arts degree. Students are well advised to take these Group Requirements ear-
ly in their programs. The Group Requirements may include the lower division
prerequisites for an Arts degree with a Major in Arts or a Double Major in Arts
and Sciences.

Students may substitute up to a maximum of 6 hours of courses taken in
Interdisciplinary Studies, for courses required in Group A, B, or C, with the
constraints that a maximum total of 3 hours may be substituted in any one
group, and that the remaining 9 hours in Group A of Group B must be taken from
at least two Arts departments. Interdisciplinary Studies courses so applied
to Groups A or B will count towards the 70 required hours in the Faculty of
Arts. The specific allocations follow:
