Subject: Ph.D. Examining Committees

/ The Senate Committee on Graduate Studies at its last

meeting agreed to a change in its procedures relating to

Ph.D. Examining Committees.

The former procedure was that the Examining Committee

would be referred to Senate for approval. The Graduate Studies

Committee feels that this will frequently hold up the appointment

of the committee, including the appointment of the External

Examiner.

The Graduate Studies Committee proposes, instead, that

Ph.D. Examining Committees be tabled for Senates information

perhaps twice a year, but that formal approval be given at the

Senate Graduate Studies Committee level,
