    Paper S-22
    Senate
    From: Senate Committee on
    Undergraduate Admissions
    and Standings
    26 July, 1967
Subject: Applicants from recognized Regional Colleges.
In January 1966 the Senate approved the following statement for inclusion
    in the Calendar:
"A student who chooses courses at a recognized Regional College
which are appropriate to his academic objective at university
and who obtains adequate standing in them, may be accepted for
further studies at the University under the same conditions
that apply to a student who has taken all his post-secondary
    studies at the University"
In order to give effect to this statement, the Admissions Committee,
    through the Registrar's Office, has:
    a. Received written statements from each department of the
University as to which college courses in its discipline
it considers transferable to a degree program at the University.
Many departments have had discussions with their
counterparts at the Colleges in order to arrive at this
    judgment.
    b.
Held a number of meetings with senior members of the staff
of Vancouver City College to try to understand the goals
    of the College.

Reviewed the files of hundreds of applicants from Vancouver
    City College,
    d..
Studied the. progress at the University of those who were
admitted on transfer from Vancouver City College.
It has not been possible to make any reasonable assessment of the progress
of Regional College transfer students in the short period we have been
    operating due to three factors:
    a.
The small number of students admitted (143 to date).
    b.
A number of transfer students switch their field on admission
to Simon Fraser and it is therefore difficult .to say at this
point how well the college prepares them for advanced
    university studies.

    C.
A number of transfer students take courses which are almost
duplicates of those which they took at the college, some for
which they received credit and some for which they did not
    receive credit on transfer.
The Admissions Committee does wish, however, to receive Senate
ratification of its interim operating procedures with respect to transfer
students from Regional Co]leges. The Committee requests, therefore,
    Senate iatification of the following:
    a.
Normally, students who were eligible for admission prior to
attending the College will be admitted with full credit for
all approved courses in which they received a "C" or better.
    b.
Normally, students who were not eligible for admission prior
to attending the College may be admitted upon successful
completion of at least four courses in one semester at the
College. On admission such students will be granted full
credit for all approved courses in which they received a "C"
    or better.
    C.
Normally, students whose record at the College is such that
    had they been at the
University their academic status would be
    S
"on probation", will not be admitted until this condition is
    removed.
