Qualifications
At the meeting of
Senate
held July 14, 1969, the following motion carried:-
"that the Senate Committee on Graduate Studies bring forward
recommendations to Senate on the desirable qualifications for a
Dean of Graduate Studies."
The Senate Committee on Graduate Studies considered this charge at its
meeting on Monday, July 21, 1969, and the following motion was approved by
that committee:-
"that. desirable qualifications for a Dean of Graduate Studies be
as follows:-
1) A senior academic with outstanding academic qualifications in
his discipline.
• ?
2) He should be generally recognized as having a broad scholarly
life as opposed to narrow specialization in his discipline.
3)
That some proven administrative ability be preferred.
4)
The person to be selected should have known experience with,
and concern for, and have been involved with graduate studies.
The committee does not wish these points to be too narroily
applied, nor to quantify the above points at this time in terms
of numbers of years of experience, or rank held, - so as to allow
the most competent person to be found."
