In reply to your memorandum of 9th July, here is the
requested information
a)
The new and revised courses are proposed for introduction
in
the Fall Semester, 1969.
b) 1. ?
Re 496-499, all faculty are prepared and qualified
to supervise independent study in their areas of
speciality, as they have so' done under the present
Honours Programme (there are no qualitative changes
between the proposed 496-499 and present 493 and
494.)
2.
Since the proposed 495 is basically an amalgamation
of the present 491 and 492, all professors who have
___—taght 491 and 492 in the past are qualified to
-'... 1
teãch 495, viz. Professors Warren Williams, John
Huchinson, John Baird, Robert Koepke, Don Kirschner,
ju
C.R. Day and Martin Kitchen.
?
Moreover, the addition
to our staff in the Fall of Professors Jack Bumsted
ridMichael Feilman, both with a particular interest
and experience or qualificationsin the area of
historiography, will increase the number of qualified
and experienced professors on hand.
3.
Re History 100, the Department is of the opinion that
any qualified historian should be thereby qualified
to teach an "Introduction to the Study of History".
In addition, since the subject matter is basically
the same as for History 495, except that it is at
a more elementary level, the faculty members listed
under 495 above have the necessary qualifications
and experience for teaching History 100.
C)
?
The History Department is uncertain as to the meaning of the
term "'hidden'expenditures." ?
No special resources (e.g.
books, etc.) are required.
?
The question of staffing is

covered under section (b) above.
The revised honours programme does not increase the work
load to any great extent.
?
The only other possibility which
comes to mind is the provision for 2-hour tutorials in History
100, but the costs of these are certainly not "hidden"; these
costs have been already met in the projected course offerings
for 1969-70 within the presently restricted budget of the
History Department.
(R.L. Koepke).
