Reconunenciation from the Senate Cormnittec on the Methods of
W
Appointment, Responsibilities and Tenure of Heads and Deans.
We were asked by the Acting President to consider urgen
tly
the general method Of appointment of an Academic Vice-President. Me
have considered the appropriate section of the Interim Council report
(section 2, para 4-20), and make the following recommendations to
Senate:
(i) That a selection committee as
described
by Interim
Council be used in all future selections of an Academic
Vice-President. The composition of this committee shall
be the (Acting) President, the three Deans of the Faculties,
one representative elected by each Faculty, and two faculty
members elected at-large.
(2) That in view of the present situation in which a
Presidential Search Committee is already in existence,
the three Faculties be asked to nominate to the Vice-
Presidential Search Committee the three members of the
Presidential Search Committee. The two faculty members at-
large
should
be elected as' auickiy as possible by normal
procedures.
(3)
That a temporary Vice-Presidential Search Committee
be instituted 'immediately, as a sub-committee of the
Presidential Search Committee; this sub-committee shall
consist of the Acting President, the three Deans and the
three faculty members.
This sub-committee
shall auto-
matically transfer its
responsibilities to
the committee
described in (i) and (2) above when the latter is constitut.ec
