Discussions on the matter of length of loan and sanctions against
possible misuse of loans have taken place at several recent meetings of the
Senate Library Committee. Professor R. J. Baker reported to Senate, at
its
meeting on September 23, that the request from the Chairman of Senate relating
to these matters was under review.
I wish to report to Senate that at the meeting of February 14th the
Senate Library Committee passed the following resolutions:
that general loan books will have a common loan period
of two weeks for all members of the university community
to commence with the summer semester
that the principle of equivalent sanctions should apply to all
members of the university community who misuse their
Library borrowing privileges
The Senate Library Committee will meet before the end of the
semester, to hear a report from the University Librarian as to how this
principle could best be implemented. This may be simply extending the
present fines system, or by introducing an alternate system of sanctions.
The Library is also considering book pick-.ups in the Academic
Quad and telephone renewals in connection with the new regulations.
