PROPOSAL:
1.
That Senate approve section B of the attached paper.
2.
That, if Senate has approved the requirements for the B. Ed.
degree, Section D. 1. of the attached paper be recognized as
a minor under the Professional. Development Centre.
NOTE:
The Registrar has informed the Acting Dean of Education
that his technical staff wotild prefer the prefix PF to that
of PDC in the designation of Professional Development Centre courses.
Since the Senate - recognized name of that unit is now Professional
Development Centre and the major program administered by it is the
Professional Development Program it seems pointless to preserve
course prefixes of PF reflecting the designation of Professional
Foundations. Consequently the Professional Development Centre prefers
to let this proposal stand.

D. The Minor - Professional Development Centre
?
1.
?
The purpose of the minor is to permit the undergraduate to develop a
professional emphasis related to his professional goals rather than
to create a specialist.
?
2. ?
The Minor is defined as a coherent grouping of from 14 to 18 semester
hours of studies taken subsequent to Education 401/402 excluding
Education 405.
?
3. ?
The student desiring a Minor under the P. D. C. will take 4 of the
following 5;
(a)
An appropriate course from a department other than the
Professional Development Centre (3 - 5 Semester hours)
(b)
P.D.C. 461-4
(c)
P.D.C. 471-4
(d)
P.D.C. 481-4
(e)
A second appropriate course from a department other than
the Professional Development Centre (3 - 5 semester hours).
?
4. ?
Since the array of possible minors is very great these will not be listed
in the calendar. However, examples of minor programs together with
explanations will be prepared as an aid to student advising. Each student
will develop a study plan appropriate to his aims. After the plan is
approved by a faculty advisor and filed with the department, changes will
require approval of the Head of the Department.

?
5.
?
It is understood that Education 401/402 and 405 are courses required
for certification. Certification by its definition in B. C. is not a specialist
qualification. Thus, minors must not encroach unduly on the regular
program. School placements, for example, will continue to be made by
Student Affairs under the general direction of the appropriate coordinator

and the Head of the Centre. Advice from other faculty will be
welcome as always and special requests, so far as is practicable
will be met.
