At its meeting of January 26, 1970, Senate approved paper S.295,

on the understanding that the matter of date of implementation

would be referred to the Senate Committee for consideration, and

report to Senate.

On February 4, 1970, the Executive Committee approved a recommenda-

tion to the Senate Committee, which was accepted without change.

The Senate Committee recommends the following to Senate for

approval:-

"That the date of implementation of Paper S.295, Requirements to

Continue in Graduate Studies, be May 1, 1970 - with the provision

that it apply to students registered in and after May 1970, to

work taken after that time, but that it not be applicable to work

aken before that time."

The intent is to apply the regulations on cumulative averages on

work taken subsequent to May 1, 1970 but not before. It was noted

that item iv, page 2, of Paper S.295 provides a mechanism for

dealing with special cases, within the overall intent of the paper.
