RATIONALE
A summer session program was offered for the first time during
1971. The course offerings during the 1971 summer session were
primarily oriented to the needs of teachers who had left the University
after completing their certification programs but before completing
their degrees.
The elective course work in the Professional Development Centre
is primarily oriented around special topic courses. At the present
time, the PDC has developed ten special topic courses but has available
only three numbers under which the courses can be offered, namely --
461-4 Trends and Development in Educational Practice
471-4 Curriculum: Theory and Application
481-4 Directed Studies
i
sMany students who enrolled in the summer session program last
year and took the courses offered by PDC are expected to enroll again
this year. It is not desirable that student records list enrollment
several times in courses under the same number and name. There are
also administrative and technical problems for staff and students where
this is done. For these reasons, we request that Senate authorize
three new course numbers for the Professional Development Centre which
will be used for the offering of special topics courses during the
summer session 1972.
I would like
required to submit
Committee no later
curriculum proposa
of these three new
session 1972.
to emphasize that the Faculty of Education is
a revised curriculum to the Academic Planning
than January 31, 1972. Because our revised
Is are not yet fully developed, we seek authorization
courses as an interim measure only for the summer
