The following membership of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee
and the Executive Committee of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee was approved
by the Executive Committee of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee at their
meetings on February 8, 1971 and June 7, 1971 and by the Senate Graduate Studies
Committee at their meeting on July 12, 1971. These are now

being forwarded to
Senate for approval.
RECOMMENDATION S
A. That the membership of the Senate Graduate Studies
Committee shall be as follows:

NOTE: ?
(i) The student members of the Committee are required to
absent themselves at those times when individual students
are being evaluated and when Examining Committees are

(ii)
The Committee quorum shall he the Chairman plus two members
of the Committee from each Faculty.
(iii)
Three graduate student "alternate" representatives may serve
on the Committee and are to he chosen in the same manner as
above (No. 7). The "alternate" representatives may attend
only in the absence of the regular student member from their
Faculty.

B. That the membership of the Executive Committee of the Senate
Graduate Studies Committee shall be as follows:
1.

Six faculty members, two from each
Faculty to be elected by and from the
respective Faculty Graduate Studies
Committees. The Dean or Associate
Dean of the Faculty shall be eligible
for election.

One of the three student members from the
Senate Graduate Studies Committee to be
chosen in a manner to be determined by
the graduate students.

NOTE: ?
(i) This Committee is a sub-committee of the Senate Graduate
Studies Committee and consequently, its members must be
members of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee.
(ii)
The membership term for Items 3 and 4 shall be a maximum
of two years. However, the membership term for Item
3
shall he arranged such that initially one member from
each Faculty shall servo for one year and the other for
two years.
(iii)
The student member of the Committee is required to absent
himself at those times that individual students are being
evaluated and when the Examining Committees are being approved.
(iv)
The Committee quorum shall be the Chairman plus one member
from each Faculty.
(v)
Three faculty 'alternate representatives shall be elected,
one representing each Faculty, by and from the respective
Faculty Graduate Studies Committees. They attend only in
the absence of a regular faculty representative from their
Faculty.
(vi)
One of the three

raduate student "alternate" representatives
on the Senate Graduate Studies Committee may servo also in
the same capacity on the Executive Committee.
