The Academic Planning Committee has considered all
material so far provided which relates to the proposed split of
the P.S.A. department and noted the suggested procedures for
consideration of the proposal presented to departmental faculty
by the Dean of Arts and the Vice-President, Academic, and
recently reported by the latter in The Peak.
Although it seems clear that a de facto split
currently exists within the faculty of P.S.A. the Academic
Planning Committee feels that the material it has studied
does not provide an adequate base for developing a
recommendation to Senate regarding the proposed separation
of the Sociology/Anthropology and Political Science components
of the P.S.A. department. Consequently the Academic Planning
Committee has asked the two groups to provide such additional
information as it may require and has invited all interested
parties to present briefs or views to assist in formulating
the optimal solution. It is hoped that a final report will
be available to Senate during the Spring of 1973.
