SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS
ACCEPTED INTO THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION BEFORE REORGANIZATION
The reorganization of the Faculty of Education, effective
January 1, 1972, has caused complications for graduate students currently
enrolled at S.F.U. and originally enrolled in the Faculty of Education.
The Executive Committee of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee has
decided to deal with this situation as follows:
a)
Those graduate students previously accepted into
the P.D.C. section of the Faculty of Education whose
programs are unaffected by the change will remain in
the Faculty of Education. As the reorganized Faculty
of Education has no departments, the Faculty Graduate
Studies Committee will act with the powers, responsi-
bilities and privileges of a Departmental Graduate
Studies Committee with respect to these students.
b)
Those graduate students previously accepted into
Communication Studies or Behavioural Science Foundations
will continue to have their programs overseen in
accordance with the Regulations by the Graduate Studies
Committee of those units. The Executive Committee
of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee will act with
the powers and responsibilities of a Faculty Graduate
Studies Committee with respect to these students.
c)
Those graduate students previously accepted into the
• ?
Faculty of Education who do not fall into the categories
above will be encouraged to seek a solution to the
problem of their status by transferring into existing

-2-
programs in the University under normal procedures
for such transfers. The Dean of Graduate Studies
will do what he can to facilitate such transfers on
an individual basis. However, this provision will
not take care of all cases.
I ?
d) Those graduate students previously accepted into the
Faculty of Education who cannot be accommodated in
the ways outlined above should apply to the Dean of
Graduate Studies so that special arrangements can be
made for them on an individual basis. The Dean will
refer all such cases to the Executive Committee of the
Senate Graduate Studies Committee which will act with
is
the powers and responsibilities of a Departmental
Graduate Studies Committee and of a Faculty Graduate
Studies Committee with respect to these students.
The Committee will act on the following two principles:
i) Academic standards must be maintained
ii) The interests of students in-program must, as far
as is practicable, be protected.
