MEMBERS OF SENATE

From _H.M.EVANS
SECRETARY OF SENATE
Subject
?
NOMINATIONS AND ELECTION OF ONE
?
Date ?
FEBRUARY 17, 1972
Election is required of one Senator to the Academic
Planning Committee as replacement for D. R. Birch whilst he sits
on the Committee in the ex-officio capacity as Acting Dean of
Education.
For the information of Senators a list is attached
showing the current membership of the Committee.
In accordance with Senate election procedures, the
Senate Nominating Committee has submitted nominations, as indi-
cated below, with election to be undertaken at the meeting of
Senate, Monday, March 6, 1972. Members are reminded that under
Senate regulations any Senator who wishes to add nominations to
those listed below may do so by notifying the Secretary of Senate
in writing of such nominations to reach his office no later than
Friday, March 3, 1972. Nominations received after that time, and
nominations from the floor, cannot be accepted.
If a nomination is made, the Senator making the nomina-
tion must ensure in advance that the nominee is willing to stand
for nomination.
The Senate Nominating Committee, acting through Dr.
Aronoff as spokesman, has proposed two names as nominees. These
have been made with some expression of embarrassment as both
individuals are on the Nominating Committee, but with security in
the belief that either one would be a very suitable candidate, and
with a rationale for each choice. It is noted that two of the
members of the Nominating Committee also are members of the
Academic Planning Committee and are familiar with its tasks.

DR. M. S. O'CONNELL
?
The Nominating Committee notes that there has
Faculty of Education
?
always been a voting member from the Faculty
of Education on the Academic Planning Committee
and that this may have been an initial intent
of Senate. The continued presence of Dr. Birch
on the Academic Planning Committee would continue
his input but terms of reference do not permit
him to vote on academic priorities. The
Nominating Committee believes that Professor
O'Connell has a mature, thoughtful, and non-
parochial view of University problems.
