MOTION TO REVISE:

"That the term of office of Senators on the
Senate Library Committee be for two years
and that at the next election of Senate
members, one Senator be elected for two
years and two Senators be elected for one
year."
(Explanatory Note: Current Senator members will hold office to
September 30, 1972. The change in term of office for one Senator
will become effective October 1, 1972. The change in term of
office for the other two Senators will become effective October
1, 1973.

This sequence is followed because the three faculty
members hold office for two years with new election scheduled
for effect October 1, 1972 for two of the faculty members and
for October 1, 1973 for one of the faculty members. This sequence
is designed to provide continuity across the Committee.

The primary purpose of the Senate Library Committee as stated in
its terms of reference is to advise the University Librarian in:
"formulating policy in regard to the development of
Library resources for instruction and research"
The present terms of appointment of the members of the Senate Library
Committee are Indicated on the attached sheet.
It has become progressively apparent that the term of office of
Senators on the Senate Library Committee does not presently allow

sufficient time to make them aware of the operations of the Library
and their obligation to it to plan the development of Library resources.
The following motion was passed at the Senate Library Committee and
is forwarded to Senate for ratification:
"that the term of office of Senators on the Senate Library
Committee be for two years and that at the next election
of Senate members, one senator be elected for two years
and two senatoisbe elected for one year"

PURPOSE: The Senate Library Committee will advise the University Librarian
in:
1.
Formulating policy in regard to the development of library
resources for instruction and research.
2.
Allocating funds to the fields of instruction and research.
3.
Determining policies governing the loan of library resources
and other service aspects of the library system.
4.
Drawing up rules and regulations governing conduct in the
library building.
The Committee will be charged with keeping the University Librarian
informed concerning the library needs and expectations of instruc-
tional and research staffs.
The Library Representatives of individual departments are concerned
with forwarding to the library the specific book and periodical
requirements of their departments.

* Appointed by President November 26, 1970 as President's designate.
** Third Assistant Librarian not provided for in composition but is invited
to ' attend all meetings by invitation of the Committee.
