COURSES
The Computing Science Program feels that the following changes in
prerequisites are necessary:-
DELETE CMPT 100-3 AS PREREQUISITE, BUT LEAVE CMPT 103-3 IN:-
CMPT
118-3, CMPT 121-1, CMPT 131-1, CMPT 132-1,
CMPT 141-1,
CMPT 142-1, CMPT 151-1, CMPT 152-1, CMPT 161-1,

(JJele '*'-
DELETE CMPT 103-3 AS PREREQUISITE, BUT LEAVE CMPT 100-3 IN:-
.
?
CMPT 260-3
RATIONALE:-
?
The original intent was to require these courses as prerequisite
for students taking honors, major or minor in Computing Science. Since both
CMPT 100-3 and 103-3 are required courses for honors, major and minor programs
such students
will
not be affected by dropping the prerequisites. The pre-
requisites being dropped are not strictly necessary in order to understand the
material. By dropping them it becomes easier for students not taking a degree
program in Computing Science to take the courses as electives.
CHANGE IN PREREQUISITE:-
CMPT 360-3 - change FROM CMPT 200-4 or 201-4, a background in
Statistics and a Science are required, TO CMPT 103-3, a back-
ground in Statistics and in research methods required.
RATIONALE:- ?
CMPT 200 or 201 is being changed to CMPT 103-3 because all that is
really required is a knowledge of programming. The real intent of the Science
requirement was that the students be familiar with research methods, however,
students tend to interpret the word "Science" as requiring a hard science, such
as Chemistry or Physics.
SECRETARY'S NOTE: CMPT 103-3 was passed by Senate at its
meeting of May 6, 1974 (Paper S.74-49) for first offering
In Fall semester 74-3. Senate Paper S.74-49 also stated
that CMPT 102-2 was to be dropped. The intent was that
CMPT 103-3 would replace 04PT 102-2 for all purposes within
the Department.
