At its meeting of 5th November, the Senate Committee on 

Undergraduate Studies discussed the attached proposal for changes 

in the program of the Department of Philosophy. This proposal is 

now forwarded to Senate for its consideration, with the Committee's 

recommendation that it be approved.

Rationale: 

Several courses in 

the current Calendar have 

exclusion riders, clauses to the effect that 

students who have studied a particular topic

in one course may not have credit for that

topic in another. For example, the exclu- 

sion rider on PHIL 435 reads as follows: 

"Students may not take this course for fur- 

ther credit if the topic is one which they have 

studied in PHIL 231, 331, 437, 438, or 439."

each case where exclusion riders occur, 

they are out of date. The intention is that 

they should list all other variable content 

courses, but none do so now. In our Calendar 

submission we have added the numbers of the
