the Senate Graduate Studies Committee
I. ?
Charge
1.
To ensure that the standards approved by Senate are
maintained.
2.
To consider matters of policy related to Graduate
Studies and to make appropriate recommendations to
Senate.
3.
To consider matters referred to it by Departments and
Faculties or by the Dean of Graduate Studies and to
make recommendations to the appropriate body(ies).
II. Activities from July 1, 1973 to July 1, 1974
1.
Powers Delegated from Senate
Six meetings took place during this period, mostly
to do with the admission of students applying under
Special Arrangements. Of the fourteen applications
considered, ten were accepted, three rejected and one
referred back.
2.
Matters to be forwarded to Senate
The Committee considered, approved, and forwarded to
the Academic Planning Committee the proposal for a Ph.D.
program in English.
Calendar changes in the Department of Archaeology and
Kinesiology were also considered, approved, and forwarded
to Senate.

 
B.
To recommend to Senate in the name of the Senate
Graduate Studies Committee:
(1) ?
the award of the Master's or Doctoral degree.
(ii) ?
proposals for new graduate courses including the
grading system to be used in those courses (i.e. S/U
or A,B.P,F)
C.
To make rulings on and, where necessary, exceptions to
the General Regulations for individual students.
II. Activities from July 1, 1974 to July 1, 1974
The number of meetings of this Committee held during this period
was 17. In this time, the Committee considered and approved the

17 extensions of deferred grades (beginning last December,
these requests are now approved by the Dean of Graduate
Studies)

for credit at Simon Fraser University

Senate Graduate Studies Committee
I. Charge: The Executive Committee acts with delegated power
from the full Senate Graduate Studies Committee:
A. To approve:
(i)
recommendations for admission to graduate studies
with the following exception: applications for
admission under Special Arrangements go directly
before the Senate Graduate Studies Committee.
(ii)
recommendations to give credit for courses taken as
a Special Student
(iii) ?
recommendations to give credit
for courses to be taken
at another university while in
a Simon Fraser degree
program.
(iv)
recommendations to give credit to a Master's Student
for course work taken at another university before
admission to this University. (Credit may be given
for up to one half the minimum course requirements).
(v)
recommendations to give residence credit for work to
be done off campus.
(vi)
recommendations on the proposed date of a doctoral
thesis examination and the composition of the Examining
Committee.
(vii)
recommendations that a Master's Student be allowed to
