SiMON FRASER UNIVERSITY
MEMORANDUM
• To
SENATE
Subject..........................................................................................
.
At its meeting of 8th July, the Senate Committee on
Undergraduate Studies accepted and agreed to consider letters frdm
the Student Unions of the History and Philosophy Departments and
from the Ad Hoc Grading Committee of the Student Society. These
letters requested the Committee to recommend' to Senate that its
deadline of the October meeting for submission of a report on
grading be postponed until midway through the Spring semester,
1976.
In discussion of these requests, the student members
of the Committee .that, if the present deadline was maintained, most
of the work and investigation on which the report would be based'
would have to be undertaken during.the current semester in which
a very small proportion of the student body was available for
consultation. ?
It was thus urged that a delay until the Spring
semester 1976 would enable a more representative cross section
of the student body to be canvassed on this question. It.was
further indicated by the Chairman of the Sub-committee which had
been charged to reconsider the original grading report that the
Committee was attempting, in consultation with a member of the
Faculty of Education, to put together a questionnaire on the
grading question. It was his view that this questionnaire would
take some time to develop and administer and that the Committee's
final report would only benefit from an extension of the present
deadline. ?
It was thus moved, seconded and carried -
That Senate be requested to extend the deadline
for submission of the report on grading to its
March meeting.
It was also resolved that the Committee would
establish the end of November as the deadline for
all submissions to the sub-committee and 15th
