November ......
At the October
31, 197
4
meeting of the Faculty of Science a
resolution was passed supporting the Mathematics Department in its wish to
offer a B.A. program in Mathematics, and urging the Academic Planning
Committee to reconsider its decision of April
4, 197
4
that such a program
be offered, if anywhere, in the Faculty of Science, and to approve the
proposal to offer the program under the aegis of the Faculty of Arts.
Accordingly we are resubmitting our proposal, first sent to you November
29, 1973
.
There have been a few changes, some editorial and some of sub-
stance. Most of the editorial changes correspond to other proposed
editorial changes in the calendar submissions of the Mathematics Department
or of the Faculty of Arts for the year
1975-1976.
Other changes are
occasioned by the introduction of new mathematics courses, of which some
have already been approved by Senate and others are being submitted to
Senate for approval. The program is however essentially the same one
• ?
described by Dr. Gerber in his November
29, 1973
memorandum, and the
reasons he gave supporting it still apply.
I will be glad to answer any questions the Faculty of Arts Under-
graduate Curriculum Committee may have about the program. We will
appreciate whatever support we can get in helping the Academic Planning
Committee to change its mind.
