MEMORANDUM
Senators will recall that, at its March meeting, Senate
agreed to a request from the Senate Committee on Undergraduate
Studies to delay the deadline for submission of its report on
Grading and Related Questions for one month.
?
This request was
made in order that student input, which, up to that point, had
not been received by the Committee, may be considered before a
final recommendation was made.
?
At its meeting of 4th March,
the Committee, having still received no input beyond a brief oral
presentation by one of the student members, decided to proceed
with its discussions and approved a final recommendation for
forwarding to Senate.
Subsequently, however, strong student representations
persuaded the Committee to reconsider its recommendations; and,
accordingly, at its meeting of 11th March, the Committee voted to
. ?
reconsider its recommendations. A subsequent motion postponed
reconsideration for four weeks from the date of the meeting so
that further submissions may be received and considered fully.
It is not therefore possible for SCUS to present recommendations
on the grading system at this time and the Committee thus asks
the indulgence of Senate in further extending its deadline. At
the time of transmitting this request, it is not possible to
predict accurately the amount of time required to bring forward
a new recommendation; and the Committee therefore requests
merely an
-
extension of the deadline with the expectation that
a more dl ?freiest can be made either orally at the April
meeting or at the May meeting of Senate.
