Action taken by the Senate Committee on Under-
graduate Studies at its meeting of November 16, 1976 gives rise
to the following Motions:

That Senate approve,and recommend approval
by the Board of Governors, the change in requirements for honors
in English as set forth in paper S.76-/56
Note - The Department will not allow courses from outside English
to substitute for the honors courses, but the present statement
seems to indicate that it will not allow any English course to be
substituted. This is not the intention, and therefore the wording
has been changed for clarification.

That Senate approve, and recommend approval
by the
Bctrd
of Governors, the proposed change in description for
English 44-4 Honors Directed Reading from "Supervised reading in
a general field for the purpose of isolating a special topic in
that field for researchtxward an honors essay." to "Supervised
reading in a general field for the purpose of isolating a special
topic in that field for research toward an honors essay. With the
Department's approval a student may substitute English 441,443 or
445 for this course."
Note
The addition of the last sentence corrects an omission made in error
at the time of a recent curriculum revision.
