Winegard Commission Report

The following motion was approved unanimously by 

the Senate Committee on Academic 

at its meeting on 

September 15, 

That one person be charged to review those 

recommendations of the Winegard Commission 

Report which have implications for the present 

and

operation, academic and 

administrative, 

of

Simon Fraser University, 

such as the following: 

a) departmental teaching and research 

responsibilities 

b)

faculty 

renewal, tenure, 

promotion and salary policies and 

procedures 

c)

participation of off-campus personnel in 

University governance 

d) articulation of students 

e)

the off-campus professional deve.lopent 

programs of the Faculty of Education 

f)

the Division of Continuing Studies 

g)

the academic and administrative service 

departments of the University 

h)

the financial aspects of the proposal. 

The Reviewer's report shall be submitted to the 

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Academic

later than November 5, 

The Reviewer shall have an 

Advisory Panel drawn proportionately from the student, 

faculty and lay members of the Senate Committee on Academic 

Planning with the added participation of the Vice-President, 

academic and the possible additional participation of two 

individuals representing the Administrative and University 

Services areas of the University. The Advisory Panel shall 

be selected by the President and Vice-President, Academic in 

with the 

Reviewer.

The Reviewer shall have 

. available such support staff as is necessary to complete the 

task in the time allotted. The motion also provided that Dr. 

Brian Beirne be appointed as Reviewer. He has accepted this 

appointment.
