NEW COURSE PROPOSAL: ANE.001-3.
Subject ?
A Multi-disciplinary Introduction
?
Date ?
JULY 20,
1976
to Africa and the Middle East
Action taken by the Senate Committee on Undergraduate
Studies at its meeting of July 13,
1976
gives rise to the
following motion:
MOTION
That Senate approve, and recommend approval to the Board of
Governors, Africa/Middle East Studies 001-3 - A Multi-disciplinary
Introduction to Africa and the Middle East, as set forth in Paper
S.76-90.
NOTE: It was observed that Africa/Middle East Studies is the least
enrolled of the area studies minor programs and a question
was raised regarding the scale of interest and allocation of
resources. The Dean indicated that upper division seminars
in Africa/Middle East Studies are reasonably enrolled and
that the overall l
,
ow enrolment may be ameliorated by the
creation of a
?
enrolment survey course such as ÂME. 001-3.
The Committee was assured that the Department of History has
been supportive of the course development and staffing, that
mounting of this course would not militate against further
development in other area studies programs, and that Africa/
Middle East Studies represents an area of major concentration
in SFU Library holdings.
