MOTION: ?
That Senate approve the change in requirements for
English majors, as set forth in paper S.76-82
NOTE
It was pointed out that the proposed change will allow
the English Department discretion in granting credit for courses
with appropriate literary or linguistic content and will remove
the necessity for listing each such course in advance.

As courses and programs have increased in number

component have appeared. It seems, therefore, too
restrictive to specify that only LIT 140 or 141 from
DML may be considered to satisfy the Department's
requirement. Also, given the frequency with which
courses change and the slowness of the process of
changing Calendar entries, it seems foolish to list
exactly which courses the Department would consider.
The Department would in no way be opening doors to
any course a student might want to use to satisfy
the requirement. It would continue the current
system under which each individual request is
submitted for approval or rejection by the Under-
graduate Curriculum Committee.
