for students with a minimum of one year's approved
teaching experience at a level corresponding to
grades taught in the B.C. public school system, and
subject to the following:
1.
Applications for course challenge will be
considered according to the generally established

Paper S.75-105 will continue to apply, subject
to the amendments now incorporated
,
through
S.76-40. The changes are shown in italics
above.)

The Senate Undergraduate Admissions Board at
its meeting of 22
January
197 considered
,
a
submission
from
the Faculty of Education for modification in the conditions
for Course Challenge, Educ. 405.
The effect of the change would
be
to accommodate
those applicants whose teaching •experience would seem to
make Education 401 redundant. It would, however,. provide
a
means by which the Faculty 'could monitor the current
teaching ability of the applicant before granting credit
for Education 405. The number of individuals involvedis
not large.
After thorough discussion of the preséntaton,
it was recommended by the Senate Undergraduate Admissions
Board that Senate approve the change in policy.

MOTION: That "normally" be inserted after the word "will" in
item 2 of the motion contained in the motion on page
1 of Senate document S75-105, and that the following
statement be added to that motion as item 5.
"Students with credit for Education 401 and who meet
other conditions for eligibility for course challenge
for Education 405 may make alternative arrangements
with the Director of Professional Programs for an
assessment of their teaching ability."
RATIONALE:
.,
When the motion making Education 405 available for
course challenge was passed there appeared to be no
mechanism other than supervision during Education 401
?
for making a thorough assessment of students' teaching
ability. For this reason the motion specifically
excluded any students who were not currently enrolled
in Education 401. The provision excluded a number of
students who were otherwise eligible to apply but who
could receive transfer credit for Education 401, or who
had previously completed Education 401 and interrupted
their program. ?
..
?
.
It is possible that students with credit for Education
401 may be currently teaching on Letter of Permission
and an assessment of their performance could be made in
their regular classroom. Whether this is possible in a
particular case will depend on where the student is
located and availability of resources. Because of this
it is proposed that the specific mechanism be determined
by the Director of Professional Programs to fit indivi-
dual circumstances.
