AGENDA
From.......................................................
Date

.SEPTEMBER15 .1977
MOTION 1: ?
"That, effective January 1, 1978, the terms
of membership of the Senate Committee on
Undergraduate Studies be changed
From: 'Student elected presidents of the
Faculties of Arts, or Education, of
Interdisciplinary Studies, of Science.'
To: ?
'One member from each Faculty to be
chosen by the Student Forum."
Explanatory Note: The attached letter from the Student Society,
. ?
concerning change to the By-laws of the Student
Society Constitution, is self-explanatory.
MOTION 2: ?
"That the quorum rule for the Senate Committee
on Undergraduate Studies be changed
From: 'One half of the voting members of the
Committee - with at least one member of
each Faculty (which could include Deans),
and at least one student (or student
Senator alternate).'
To:
?
'A majority of the voting members,
including one student.'"
Rationale: Frequent problems have arisen in connection with
attendance causing inconvenience of meeting cancella-
tions or adjournment for lack of a quorum, and as
senior administrators are required to be represented
on major committees and faculty representatives are
largely people on standing committees in their faculties
or departments, there are no good alternatives to fixed
meeting times in order to protect schedules.
Note: The above changes were approved by SCUS, have been accepted
by the Senate Committee on Agenda and Rules and are recommended
to Senate for approval.

Sincerely,

STUDENT SOCIETY
September 2, 1977
Mr. Harry Evans
• ? Registrar
Registrar's Office
Simon Fraser University
Dear Mr. Evans:
At its Annual General Meeting last February, the Simon Fraser
. ?
Student Society voted to change the By-Laws of its constitution
(please see enclosed). The Constitution, which will come into
effect on January 1, 1978 does not provide for the positions
of Science, Arts, Interdisciplinary and EducatioP Presidents.
Instead, a representative from each academic department at S.F.U.
will be elected to form the Student Forum. Because of these
changes we request that the Senate change the terms of reference
for the Senate Committee on Undergraduate Studies from ". . . .the
four faculty presidents ....." to "One (1) member from each faculty,
to be chosen by the Student Forum."
If there are any problems regarding this request please contact
me at the S.F.S.S. General Office, 3183.
