NEW COURSE PROPOSAL FORM

Calendar Information
?
Programme.: Biochemistry
Abbreviation Code: BICH
?
Course Number: 492
?
Credit Hours:

Vector:
Title of Course: Individual Study Semester (Option A)
Calendar Description of Course:
This course is available to students who have already taken BICH 491-5 ,,-
481-5 or BISC 498-3 but would like additional research experience. It is also
available to students who have not yet taken an undergraduate research course but
wish to break an Individual Study project into two semesters. In this case,
the student may take BICH 491-5 and BICH 492-10 in either order in two succeeding
semesters. If taken in the first semester, BICI-I 491-5 could thus be used for
laboratory preparation; if taken following BICH 492-10, it could be used to
complete the research phase and preparation of a research report.
The nature of he Drolect will in most cases determine the sequence, which must,

3.
Objectives of the Course - The Individual Study Semester is envisioned to facilitate
in depth undergraduate research opportunities for suitably qualified students. This
experience would be most useful to students contemplating graduate studies. Since
a considerable proportion of biochemistry graduands have pursued advanced studies
at the Masters and Doctoral level, availability of the BICH I.S.S. options under
the aegis of the Biochemistry Curriculum Committee would be desirable.
