....................................................
The objective of the African/Middle
Eastern Studies Program has been to
encourage students interested in
Africa andthe Middle' East to adopt
,
a
multi* - disciplinary approach
to the regions, rather than to encourage
unduespecialization within a
single discipline.
Experience has shoun that this objective has
not been fully achieved
through the introduction of ME. 401 and
N4E.' 402
because,
although these
courses have met a need, it has been
found in practice that students have
become aware of the program or that they
have appreciated the advantages
of a multi-disciplinary approach, too
late in their 'academic careers for
them to declare a minor in the Program.
In order to overcome these faults a
general aulti-disciplinary introduction
course, AME. 001, has been approved
and
will-be
introduced for the Fall,,
• ?
1977, to encourage earlier student
involvenflt In
the program to
their
own advantage.
Since the intention is to facilitate the
sound academic development of
participants, calendar changes are
desireable to reinforce our 'initial
objectives and approval is now sought to
require students seeking the
Minor in African/Middle
Eastern Studies to take AC. 001 and one of the
AME. 400 level courses.
Interested students, who do not intend
to apply for the Minor on graduation
are welcome to participate in any AM course
they are qualified
to
enter.
