MEMORANDUM

STUDENT TUITION FEES
?
Date ...... ...
MARCH .18.,. 19.7.7
At its meeting on April 5, 1977 the University's Board of
Governors, in the process of budget considerations, will give con-
sideration to the question of whether to raise tuition fees for
students in the year 1977-78.
The tuition fee increase will seriously affect the ability
of many students to complete their university education. Students
have not had any increase in funds available. In fact the present
economic situation has hurt them seriously. Financial aid has become
more restrictive (especially the provincial grants). Unemployment is
considerably higher and will be even higher this Summer.
Senate must express its concern over the plight of students
to the Board of Governors. To do otherwise would be to abdicate our
responsibility for students. Therefore, under Section 37(n) of the
Universities Act, be it moved
"That Senate recommend to the Board of Governors
that there be no change in student tuition fees
for 1977-78. Further, be it moved that this
motion be placed before the Board of Governors
at its meeting of April 5, 1977."
