For several years Kin 420-3 has been used as a vehicle to offer experimental
course material and for the first offering of new courses which are being
developed. Students have been allowed to take two separate offerings of the
course for credit, although normally only one of these can be used in satisfying
the 30 hour upper level Kinesiology course requirement for the major. This has
caused no problems for the Registrar's Office who can even append a sub-topic
to the course title on the student's transcripts.
In 77-1 we will for the first time offer two different versions of
Kin 420 in the same semester. The topics are quite different and it is
not unnatural that some students would want to elect the course twice in
the same semester. Apparently the computer program used by the Registrar's
Office cannot handle this situation.
The Solution
Add two new courses: Kin 421-3 Selected Topics in Kinesiology II
Kin 422-3 Selected Topics in Kinesiology III
Course description is identical to Kin 420-3
Modify Kin 420-3 title to Kin 420-3 Selected Topics in Kinesiology I
The degree requirements will be effectively unchanged - i.e. only one of
Kin 420-3, Kin 421-3 and Kin 422-3 can be counted towards the 30 upper level
credits for the major. Editorial comment will be required to cover this.
The others can be used as electives.
Three course numbers are requested since although it is unlikely that
more than two versions would ever be offered in a regular semester this
might well occur in the Summer where there are distinct offerings for
the Summer Semester, InterSession and Summer Session.
The above calendar changes were approved by the Faculty of Interdisciplinary
Studies Undergraduate Curriculum Committee on December 14, 1976
