Proposed Change in Prerequisite

The Faculty of Science, at its meeting of 1978 09 28, passed the
following motion:
"That the Faculty of Science moves that the prerequisite, as stated
in the Calendar, for
CHEM
458-3 be changed from CHUM 261-3 and ChuM 357-3
to
CHEM
261-3 and
CHEM
356-2 and moves that this change goes before the

CHEM
357 was added as prerequisite a few years ago to assure
adequate knowledge OF
NMR
spectroscopy. This topic, which constitutes
only a small portion of
CHEM
458, is now introduced in
CIIEM
252 and CHUM 356.

The proposed relaxation in the prerequisite would make this (rarely
offered) course available to a larger number of students especially from
Biochemistry and Chemical Physics, who could benefit from a rigorous
discussion of physical chemistry principles and mechanistic studies as applied
to organic reactions.
