16TH MARCH, .978
On February 1, 1978, the Senate Undergraduate Admissions
Board considered the course, English 12 (Modified English)
for inclusion
in
the list of courses acceptable for
admission to Simon Fraser University. The Board's decision
was to not allow the course to be used as one of the
academic Grade 12 subjects for admission purposes. This
position was taken on the basis of the following information:--
a)
The course is English 12 modified by the school
so that students may concentrate on minimum
essential content.
b)
The course is strictly a local school responsibility
and, as such, there is no syllabus, or course out-
line available from the Ministry of Education.
c)
Some secondary schools have indicated that the
course is considered to be for non-university
students.
The Board felt that any student who completes English 12
(ME) as part of their academic Grade 12 program could
become admissible to Simon Fraser University by subsequently
completing the regular English 12 course, or by completing
a full year of acceptable studies at a B.C. Regional College.
