ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1977
FROM THE
SENATE COMMITTEE ON SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS AND BURSARIES
MARCH 1978
INTRODUCTION
The terms of reference and the current membership of the committee may be
found in a report entitled Senate Committees dated October 15th 1977 and
circulated to all members of Senate by Secretariat Services.
The terms of reference for the specific programmes administered by the
committee may be found in the Financial Aid section of the undergraduate
calendar and the appropriate section of the graduate calendar.
?
Where ?
changes in the terms of reference of these programmes were made during
1977 they will be noted below.
A brief review of the University Programmes administered by S.C.S.A.B. and
.
?
also of the Government Financial Aid Programmes is given in a Table at
?
the
end of this report. A detailed annual report is available for examination
through the Chairman of S.C.S.A.B. or the Director of Financial Aid.
1) UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
These scholarships, which range from $100 to $400, were increased in
1977
in
order to comply with tuition fee increases. Scholarships are
awarded on the previous semester's fine grade point in proportion to
hours taken.
?
Students registered in less than 15 semester hours,
?
received the scholarship on a pro-rated basis. There was no increase
in the amount of entrance scholarships.
At a meeting on December 14th 1977 it was recommended and approved by
S.C.S.A.B. that two categories of scholarships be established.
Category (a) would include students who are utilizing graded course
work for competition.
?
Category (b) would include students who are
?
utilizing non-graded courses for competitions (P/W P/NE P/F). This
would include P.D.P. students also. Proportional budgets for the
two categories may be established.
