The attached, proposed changes are meant to accomplish two things.
1. Under General Requirements we want to inform students of
a list of complementary courses which is being developed within the
department. We also want them to be informed of a general meeting to
take place at least once a year. This meeting will serve the purpose
of orienting students to the offerings and the faculty of the department.
2.
As
a result of several semesters of experience we want to
make
some adjustments to our "philosophy of science" requirement. Essentially
we want to broaden the requirement plus build in a safeguard for students
who, for one reason or another cannot take a background course in the general
area of philosophy of science or history of ideas. As well as adding
two courses to the choice a student can make from outside the department
we are proposing that students may take two courses within the department
to fulfill the requirement.
-
This latter, inside alternative will require
the permission of the Undergraduate Adviser.
