LOWER DIVISION REQUIREMENTS
PSYCHOLOGY
The Committee wished to emphasise the value and usefulness of PSYCH 210-3
to students taking PLP and the fact that it is an important prerequisite
to Psychology Upper Division Courses.
This changes the minimum numbers of Lower Division Psychology credits
from
9
hours to 12 hours.
LINGUISTICS
It has not been possible For several reasons to maintain LING 100 as the
introductory course to the PLP programme.
As they stand, the LING. Lower Division requirements involve some
hidden prerequisites. LING 100 is not a prerequisite to any Upper
Division courses.
With the addition of LING. 222, all lower division LING courses that
are prerequisites to Upper Level courses are included.
CONSEQUENCE and CHANGE: Total MIN number of Lower Division LING
credit requirements changes from 9 to 12
PHILOSOPHY
Change in credit allocation only as a result of calendar changes
introduced by the Philosophy Dept. and approved by Senate.
Involves change of total Lower Division Credit hours in Philosophy
from
9
to 10
Effect of changes on TOTAL REQUiRED LOWER DIVISION CREDITS:
MINIMUM: 34

RATIONALE:
The Committee decided that since 1) PHIL 210-4 Elementary Formal Logic
is already a requirement for the programme 2) PHIL 340-3 Philosophical
• ?
Methods is a general upper division required course in Philosophy and
3) PHIL 340-3 is most relevant to our programme it would be better to
reduce the amount of Logic courses required in order to enable the
introduction of a Methods course which has the simultaneous advantage
of handling another 'hidden' prerequisite.
