S.A. 420-4 Sociology of Aging
A consideration of the structural and behavioural Implications of
aging. Topics included will be: demographic aspects of aging; the
relationship of aging to political, economic, familial and other
social institutions; the social psychological significance of aging.

Rationale
The sociology of aging is a core course in the new Gerontology
Diploma programme, which will be commencing in the fall 1983 semes-
ter. The course has been offered twice under the S.A. 460/461
"Special Topics" rubric (81-1 and 83-1) and draws a substantial
number of students.
