APPENDIX A
OUTLINE OF ECONOMICS 864-4, STUDIES
IN

The course will analyse techniques of economic fisheries management
and assess their effects in a variety of circumstances, based on the
study of several
well documented projects in fisheries management. The
projects will cover cases of mature and developing fisheries, cases in
developed and developing countries, cases of fisheries subject to
national and to international jurisdictions.
Topics covered will include open access and limited entry regimes,
gear requlatjon and group conflict management, impact of taxation and
licensing, economic effects of conservation and biological management,
management regimes for trans-boundary stocks, and management by inter-
national convention.
Following are examples of studies that will be explored:

LIBRARY
RESOUIES
Library resources for Economics 864 are sufficient. The course will
use much of the same background material as is currently being used for
-
?
Economics 863 (Fisheries Economics).
A "long bibliography" (running to 63 pages) has been developed by
P. Copes, listing background material for both Economics 863 and
Economics 864. Almost all of the items listed are available in the
Library, or from the private collection of P. Copes, or from
both.
