SCHOOL APPLICANTS - SUAB 95
Date... .11TH. .URL...1982..............................
I have just completed a review of the academic status of
all high school students offered admission who placed in
the special 2.0 - 2.49 range, based on high school
grade point average. From the initial semester in 1980-3
through to 1982-1, we have offered admission to eighty-two
students. Of these, forty-eight actually registered at
SFU and their performance, based on current cumulative
grade point average, is attached. Of the remaining
students, thirty-two did not register, while two register-
ed and withdrew before completing any coursework.
This SUAB Review procedure was intended to allow a transi-
tion period for the new Secondary School requirements.
The new requirements have been in place for six semesters
and it is appropriate that we evaluate the advantages of
considering students with averages below 2.50.
The data shosthat these applicants result in a lower than
average yield and that the rate of academic success is
also low.
Options that we may elect are:--
A)
Continue to review all applicants in the 2.0-2.49
range.
B)
Review only those applicants with a grade point
average of 2.25 (Range I), or higher.
C)
Discontinue the review of Range I ano Range II
applicants.
0) Delegate responsibility
of
review
of
Range I
and/or Range II applicants to the Director
of
Admissions.
