PROPOSED DEGREE FOR THE FACULTY OF

OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
At the meeting of SCAP held April 7th., there was very brief discussion of
SCAP 82-9
On
the above-mentioned topic, motion was made "that the name of the
degree to be granted by the Faculty of Business Administration be Bachelor of
Business Administration", there was some question of using major in Business
Administration when the title includes such words, comment was made that the
question of joint majors and joint honors had not been considered in conjunction
with this proposal, motion was made "that paper SCAP 82-9 be tabled pending
further consideration of possible variations and combinations of programs
which could affect the proposed degree title" - the motion to table carried.
There obviously was misunderstanding and misinformation. These various items
had been discussed by earlier groups and it was believed they had been disposed
of, with some deemed of insufficient consequence to need statements in the
submission.
Under the present general University structure, at the undergraduate level to
qualify for a Bachelor's degree (with the exception of the BGS degree and some
provisions for double minors on the B.Ed degree) a student is required to complete
is
?
a Major program or an Honors program. In a number of instances there are provisions
for a Joint Major program or Joint Honors program. In addition a student may take
two Major programs (Double Major), or may include one or more Minor programs.
There are other provisions.
Under the present programs offered in the Faculty of Arts, for those interested
in Business Administration there is provision for the following:-
Major in Business Administration
Honors in Business Administration
Joint Major in Business Administration and Economics
Joint Honors in Business Administration and Economics
Minor in Business Administration
Various additions of another Major, or Honors, or one or more minors under
the general regulations of the University.
Under the proposed programs to be offered in the Faculty of Business Administration
there continues to be provision for each of the above. The present proposal
therefore is following the long-time general structure of the University and
practice as at present in Business Administration.
Students undertaking the standard undergraduate programs in the Faculty of
Business Administration usually will be qualifying for a Bachelor of Business
Administration, with
Major in Business Administration or
Joint Major in Business Administration and Economics or
• ?
Honors in Business Administration or
Joint Honors in Business Administration and Economics or
anyone of the other combinations available.
If the proposal is approved it is intended to introduce this degree title
for September, 1982, subject to UCBC approval.
