Implementation of the attached co-op program in Biological
Sciences is sought effective with the summer semester 1982.
To assess interest in such a program, Dr. Rolf Mathews of the
Biological Sciences Department has been actively exploring co-OP
possibilities with both students and potential employers. Both
employment opportunities and qualified students are available to
begin such a program this summer. Further, implementation during
the summer semester is most appropriate from the Department's
perspective.
First year costs of the proposed program will be:
2 - $1,500 stipends (82-2 and 82-3 for Professor Thelma Finlayson)
1,600 operating expenses
$4,600
Year two costs of the proposed program will be: $1,750 operating
expenses.
Professor Mathews will be the coordinator of the Biological Sciences
Co-Op program. During his sabbatical leave (82-2 and 82-3 semesters),
his co-op responsibilities will be assumed by Professor FinlaysOn
who will receive a stipend of $1,500 for each of two semesters.
After 82-3 co-op responsibilities will again be assumed by Professor
Mathews. While released teaching time (1 course per semester) will
be granted Professor Mathews for assuming co-op responsibilities,
the practice of the other three Sciences departments with co-op
programs has been to absorb the additional one course load without
seeking additional stipend support. Presumably, the same policy
will be followed by Biological Sciences.
• ?
In year 2 and subsequent years, the anticipated additional cost
• ?
will be normal operating expenses adjusted for inflation.
