The Geography Graduate Studies Committee has approved

the change in the definition of cólioqu, to be
inserted in the graduate calendar. The rationale for
such a change was discussed at a recent Graduate
Studies Committee meeting, and it was concluded that
the purpose of the colloquium outlined in the
calendar was misleading. The Graduate Studies Committee,
therefore, agreed to revise the definition as shown below.

Each M.A. candidate will be expected to present a paper
to the Department at a colloquium. This paper should be
based on either: one of the candidate's proposed extended
essays, or his/her proposed thesis tepic, and should be
prepared under the supervision, and to the satisfaction,
of the candidate's Supervisory Committee
To
Each M.A. candidate will be expected to present a paper
to the Department at a colloquium. The paper should be
a research proposal,prepared and presented to the
satisfaction of the candidate's Supervisory Committee
prior to the start of substantive research.
