Attached please find sets of calendar revisions forwarded
to the Senate Graduate Studies Committee, after having been
reviewed and accepted by the Graduate Studies Committee of
the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies. These course
revisions are for the Master of National Resources Management
(MRM).
The first set of proposals represent essentially housekeeping
modifications to calendar descriptions for MRM642 and MRM647.
The second set of proposals involve a reweighting of the
number of course hours assigned to all of the courses in
MRI. In most cases these involve a modification from two
or three hours of credit per course to five hours of credit
per course.
. ?
The faculty committee, having reviewed these carefully, is
convinced that they represent reasonable and valid modifications
and recommend that they be adopted. These modifications
accomplish two things: first, they more accurately reflect
the number of hours of work students are actually having to
put in for each of these courses; second, they bring the MRM
Program more into line with course hours assigned for courses
of similar density and expertise in the Master of Business
Administration and Education courses.

Rationale for Proposed MRN Program Changes
Experience over two years of starting up the MRN Program has
revealed that the hours allocated for individual classes seriously
underestimated the time required to present courses in the program.
The proposed changes would correct this problem. It also makes
the MRN courses equivalent in value to the professional courses
taught in Business Administration and Education.
