This report covers the period January 1, 1980 to December 31, 1980.
During this period SCUS. has held 17 meetings. Average attendance
at the meetings has been 10 out of a possible 15 members. Attendance by
student members was poor in the early
,
part of the year. Meetings were
generally chaired by the Associate Vice-President, Academic, (Dr. Birch
until August 1980 and Dr. Webster from September 1980).
A great deal of business has been carried out by SCUS under
authority delegated to it by Senate. Each of these items has been
reported to Senate for information:

In addition, other miscellaneous changes were approved.
SCUS received reports from each Faculty on Special Topics Courses.
SCUS approved a variety of new courses and changes for subsequent
presentation to Senate.

During the year, SCUS established sub-committees to examine the
issues of writing skills of students, sometimes referred to as the
"literacy problem", and multiple undergraduate degrees. Recommendations on
the latter have been disposed of by Senate,; reconmnd&t

skills will be coming forward. Guidelines for Cooperative Education
practicum courses, extension of participation in the English Placement
Test and regulations for enrolment limitation of Business Administration
were considered and approved by SCUS.
Two new programs, the Minor and Certificate in Coaching were
withdrawn due to rejection by SCUS of a proposed new course. During the
year, several other programs and courses were referred for revision and

were subsequently approved.
The Committee spent some time examining its role, particularly in
the relation to that of SCAP.
