SIII. THE ACADEMIC PLANNING-FUNCTION
In last year's report, it was noted that the President had
asked the Senate Committee on Academic Planning to address
the need for a more rational and effective planning process.
To that end a subcommittee of S.C.A.P. was given the charge
of developing an assessment of Simon Fraser today and an
indication of possible future directions. The final draft
of that paper was considered by S.C.A.P. at its meeting in
June, 1980 and subsequently forwarded to Senate where it was
approved.
Subsequent to approval of the Future Planning Directions
statement by Senate, the Vice-President Academic proposed
to S.CA.P. a set of recommendations regarding its terms of
reference. These recommendations were also forwarded to
Senate and received approval.
Along with the recommendations for changes in S.C.A.P's terms
of reference, the Vice-President Academic also proposed the
establishment of a number of S.C.A.P. task forces to examine
various planning issues of concern to the University. The
purpose in establishing the task forces was to encourage a
thorough and realistic appraisal of various University
• activities and opportunities that would enable the Senate
Committee on Academic Planning to advise Senate on future
directions for the University.
