The Executive Committee acts with delegated power from the Senate
Graduate Studies Committee to:-
Approve:
1. All recommendations for the award of a degree, In
1980, 194
degrees were awarded.
2. Recommendations for Admission involving substantial doubt.
There were 17 recommendations considered and all were approved.
3. All new graduate courses. There were
18
new courses approved:
4 in the Master of Natural Resource Management program; 2 in
the Department of Archaeology; 5 in the Faculty of Education;
1 in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics;
5 in the Department of Biological Sciences; and 1 in the
Department of Communications.
4. Graduate Curriculum changes in the Departments of Archaeology,
Lanugages, Literatures and Linguistics, Biological Sciences,
Physics, Economics, English and Geography, and in the Faculty
of Education and the Master of Natural Resource Management
program.
5. Changes in the General Regulations for Graduate Studies. Changes
were made in the following regulations:

The Role of an
External Examiner; and 1.12.3 Readmission, as indicated in the
appended Report of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee.
Authority delegated to the Dean of Graduata Studies by the Executive
Committee of the Senate Graduate Studies Committee:-
Approve:
1. Recommendations for Admission meeting University requirements.

Recommendations to approve credit for courses taken as a Special
Student or at another institution.
3. Recommendations to complete courses at another institution for
credit at Simon Fraser University.
4. Recommendations to give residence credit for work completed off
campus.
5. Recommendations for Supervisory Committee membership or for
changes in it.
6.
Recommendations for extensions beyond the five or eight year time
limit and for deferred grades.
7. Recommendations for the establishment of Master's and Ph.D. Examining
Committees.
8. Late grade changes and course drops.
