Attached are new Calendar descriptions for the above courses which
are designed to allow for a wider range in treatment of the time periods
designated.
As a separate issue it was recommended that, pending approval of
the Faculty of Arts Curriculum Committee and the Senate Committee on
Undergraduate Studies, W.S. 201-3 and W.S. 202-3 should be counted .for
credit towards a History degree.

At its meeting of 15 October, 1980 the Woman's Studies Co-ordinating Committee
recommended' that calendar descriptions be changed for the following courses.
"that W.S. 201-3 Women in Canada 1600-1920 be changed from:
The course will investigate primarily the lives of
women 'tho did not achieve public faire. Primary
data will be collected from the diaries, trenDirs,
letters and literary works of Canadian women.
This course examines the changing nature of female experience
from the days of New France to the First World War through
the lives of both famous and anonymous women. The diaries,
uemDirs, letters and literary works of Canadian women will
be a major interest.
and
"that W.S. 202-3 Woman in Canada 1920 to the Present be changed from:
The course will focus on the unpaid work of waxen

the
hone in conjunction with their increasing entry into wage
work throughout this period. The effect of this change
on family structure, woman's roles and education and
on
ideas of women's place will be examined, using nipimirs
and literary sources plus sociological, historical and
economic material.

This course examines the range of experience open to
Canadian woman in the twentieth century. The strengths
and limitations of women's roles will be analyzed from
a historical perspective, using demographic evidence,
autobiographies, literature, government documents and
uonographs."

Pending approval by the Faculty of Arts Undergraduate Curriculum
Committee and SCUS, the Women's Studies Co-ordinating Committee would
like the following statement to be added to the course descriptions
of both W.S. 201-3 and W.S. 202-3:
"W.S. 201-3 and W.S. 202-3 may count for credit toward a History degree".
