That Senate delegate to the Senate Committee on

Undergraduate Studies authority to approve

revisions in the list of courses recognized for

inclusion in an area studies program.

Rationale:

It is standard practice for the Director or Coordinator and the

Steering Committee of an area studies program periodically to

review course offerings and proposed new courses and to identify

those with content appropriate for inclusion on an approved list.

Revisions to such lists are then recommended to a Faculty curricu-

lum committee, to SCUS, to Senate, and to the Board for approval.

The recommendation is to conclude such approval at the level of

the appropriate Senate Committee.
